Trooper Steed

State Trooper Lisa Steed may have won statewide honors for making more than 200 DUI arrests this year, but she hopes to have less success in 2008.

"When you look at how it tells you how many drunk drivers there actually are out there, it's a little scary," Steed said. Steed this month became the first woman to be named "Trooper of the Year" by the state Department of Public Safety. The West Point resident has made some 750 arrests for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol since she became a trooper five years ago, she said.

The construction season is well under way. Within the boundaries of Davis County we have two major Legacy highway interchanges being built, Front Runner is nearing its finial stages, I-15 widening in the North end continues, the Centerville overpass is being rebuilt, and we have a large section of surface repair being done in the Farmington / Kaysville area. Along with the construction comes the hundreds of trucks hauling massive amounts of road base.

All of these projects add up to a lot of slow traffic and many fraid nerves. I am fortunate to have a great team of troopers doing an outstanding job of keeping delays to a minimum and traffic flowing, but we can not do this alone. We need your assistance. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go. When you do get in the middle of slow moving traffic, please be patient and go with the flow. Excessive moving from one lane to another adds to the problem and even a simple fender bender can really plug things up.
